Company Name: Rio Tinto Job Title: Global Head of Health, Safety and Environment Skills and experience: Elaine is Global head of Health, Safety and Environment for Rio Tinto, a position she has held since 2002. From 2000 - 2002, Elaine was Global Executive Environment, Health and Safety for Rio Tinto Borax. Prior to Borax, Elaine held a number of environmental roles of increasing responsibility in the Rio Tinto Group. Prior to employment with Rio Tinto, Elaine managed the environmental science and chemistry function and led the ecological risk assessment effort at Ebasco Environmental, an environmental consulting firm. Immediately after graduate school, she spent six and one half years with Monsanto Agricultural Company, first providing analytical chemistry support for the animal biotechnology program and then working in regulatory registration for crop protection chemicals. Elaine graduated from Colorado State University with a Ph.D. in analytical chemistry and from Maryville College in Tennessee with a B.A. magna cum laude in chemistry, with emphasis in biology and mathematics.
