John Crackett was appointed in July 2007 as Managing Director of Central Networks for E.ON UK, and he is also E.ON UK Board member responsible for Safety, Health and Environment.  Central Networks distributes electricity to homes and businesses in central England, serving 4.9 million customers and employing around 3500 people.  Previously John was MD of E.ON Energy Services - a business that helps E.ON customers get connected to electricity and gas supplies, heat their homes and understand their energy use. John set up and led this company from its inception in 2005.

Starting as a graduate trainee in the power industry, John’s early career was in the design and project management of power stations; working on nuclear, coal, gas and combined-heat-and-power projects.  Transferring to Ironbridge Power Station in the mid 1990’s as Engineering Manager, he went on to manage that station, and ultimately 10 power plants in the UK.  He moved to E.ON in 2002 to implement a new shared-services and IT organization for their UK operations.

In addition to a twelve-year involvement with the work of the Marches Energy Agency (a sustainable energy charity), John is active in engineering and social housing charities, and tries hard to put sustainability into practice at home in his draughty vicarage in Shropshire.
