  • Case study - Onboard and unprecedented: Emergency training for an offshore drilling fleet

After serving 9 years in the Royal Navy fleet air arm as a naval airman fulfilling the role as aviation fire fighter, I left the service to take up a similar position with Prestwick Glasgow airport before moving to BAA airports.

At the age of 42 and with approximately 23 years of fire fighting experience. I felt the time was right to look for a new challenge, after a very short period I found myself employed in the offshore oil & gas sector (north sea) carrying out safety critical servicing of fire equipment.

Almost immediately I saw the need to highlight the concerns I started to see and feel with regards to ensuring that all fire and safety equipment was well maintained and not just given lip service.

Most recently I’ve been successful in gaining employment with a large offshore drilling company where I was tasked to develop the role of offshore emergency response trainer, this project took 2 tears to complete and was rolled out to 7 drilling rigs capturing 200+ personnel.
