    Andrew Sharman holds the position of Divisional Manager – Safety, Health & Wellbeing for RBS, The Royal Bank of Scotland Group; one of the world’s largest financial institutions with over 170,000 employees in more than 60 countries across the globe.

    Andrew’s career began as a Process Engineer in the electronics sector, before moving into a health and safety role with US-based printed circuit board manufacturers Silvermines plc in 1998.  Since then, Andrew’s safety career has included the complexities of international brewing giant Scottish & Newcastle plc and the safety-critical, high hazard environment of ScottishPower (part of the Iberdrola group).  Andrew’s work has earned a number of high profile accolades including the DuPont International Safety Award for Innovative Approach in 2007; the IOSH / Zurich Municipal Supreme Safety Award 2007; and the SHP Award for Best Achievement in the Utilities Industry 2008.

    The behavioural and cultural aspects of workplace health and safety interest Andrew greatly, and how when harnessed positively, these elements can return positive and sustainable dividends to both the organisation and its employees.  Andrew regularly presents papers on human factors, and the attitudinal, behavioural and cultural aspects of workplace health and safety at international professional conferences and seminars.

    Andrew is a registered European Occupational Safety & Health Manager (EuroSHM), a Chartered Safety Practitioner, and a Chartered Fellow of The Institution of Occupational Safety and Health (IOSH). Andrew also sits on the Board of IOSH as a Trustee.  He holds a first class Masters Degree in International Health & Safety Law and Environmental Law and is also a member of the Health and Safety Lawyers Association.  Andrew holds other academic and professional qualifications in Health & Safety; Environmental Management; Business Management; and Learning & Development. 

    Far from being risk-averse, Andrew enjoys adventure sports including climbing, sea kayaking and swimming with sharks.
